Managing IBS:Calmer Mind, Calmer Tummy

Is IBS impacting your life?

"I’m constantly worried about where the nearest toilet is, it’s exhausting and affects my confidence when I leave the house."

"Some days I feel so bloated and uncomfortable that I don’t want to wear normal clothes, let alone go out and be sociable."

"It feels like my stomach has a mind of its own. I never know when it’s going to flare up, which makes planning anything really stressful."

"I avoid eating before events or going out to eat with friends because I’m scared of triggering my symptoms."

If any of these sound like you, then IBS could be affecting your life. I could be able to help you to better manage your symptoms so that you feel better and can reduce the fear of flare ups and discomfort

But why do I feel this way?

IBS is a functional gastrointestinal disorder, meaning there are no visible signs of damage or disease in the digestive tract. Instead, it involves a disruption in the way the gut functions, leading to various symptoms.

While the exact causes of IBS are not fully understood, there is a strong connection between the gut and the brain, often referred to as the "gut-brain axis". Stress, anxiety, and other emotional states can directly impact how your gut works, leading to IBS symptoms.

Some People with IBS may have a more sensitive gut, reacting more strongly to things like food, stress, or hormonal changes. This hypersensitivity can trigger pain, cramping, and changes in bowel habits.

IBS can also involve problems with the muscles that control the movement of food through the digestive tract. This can lead to diarrhoea, constipation, or alternating between the two.

Imagine a different, happier life without flairups.

Imagine being able to make plans without worrying about your stomach ruining the day.

Picture enjoying meals again instead of stressing over what might trigger symptoms.

Can you envision feeling more confident going out, knowing that you're not constantly scanning for a toilet?

Being able to manage your IBS might seem like wishful thinking, but with the right support and approach, it really can be achievable!

How can I help you better manage IBS?

While the exact causes of IBS are still not clear, we do know that emotional stress and anxiety can directly influence how the digestive system behaves.

Using deep relaxation and positive visualisation techniques to quiet the nervous system, helps to lower cortisol levels and soothe the gut. As the body shifts out of a constant state of alert, the digestive system can begin to function more normally and comfortably.

We will work together to:

Understand Your Brain: Hypnotherapy begins by explaining how the brain works, particularly the connection between the gut and the brain.  The more you know about how your brain and body are working together, the more likely you are to be able to manage IBS.

Reduce Stress and Anxiety: Stress and anxiety can exacerbate symptoms. By employing techniques like guided relaxation, deep breathing exercises, and positive visualisation, hypnotherapy helps calm the nervous system, reducing stress hormones that can make symptoms worse.

Enhancing Relaxation Response: The use of trance induces a deep state of relaxation, calming the nervous system and reducing gut hypersensitivity. This promotes healing and helps regulate gut function.

Creating Positive Habits: Helping you to develop positive lifestyle habits that support gut health, such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep. These changes can contribute to long-term symptom management.
